EDiMA, the voice of the leading internet companies in Europe, has announced today that TikTok has joined its ranks.
Announcing the news, Siada El Ramly, EDiMA Director General said:
“We’re delighted to welcome TikTok as the latest new member of EDiMA, cementing our position as the voice of the leading internet companies in Europe.”
“EDiMA’s members take our responsibility seriously and engage constructively with the EU institutions. TikTok is taking a similarly proactive approach and will make a very welcome addition to our membership.”
EDiMA’s membership has grown significantly since the beginning of this year with other high profile companies such as Spotify and Etsy joining the organisation alongside some of the most well-known internet companies including eBay, Twitter, Airbnb and Microsoft in the 20 strong membership.
Theo Bertram, Director of Government Relations & Public Policy, Europe at TikTok said:
“As the leading trade association for internet companies, we are delighted to join EDiMA. Promoting a safe and positive experience is our top priority, and we are looking forward to engaging with the other members and playing our part in relevant European conversations about online safety, digital well-being, misinformation, and many other vital topics through our membership.”
As Brussels begins the process of consultation on a future Digital Services Act, EDiMA’s growing membership will further its leadership position in advocating for the industry.
EDiMA has recently called for the introduction of an online responsibility framework as a means to tackle the growing challenges of managing illegal content and activity online and continues to represent the industry on issues as diverse as artificial intelligence, disinformation and data.
