Industry commits to Strengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation

DOT PR Code of practice

16 June 2022, Brussels, Belgium – Today, marks the launch of the Strengthened Code of Practice on
Disinformation: an enormous undertaking between a variety of stakeholders under the guidance
the European Commission. This iteration of the Code takes the existing self-regulatory mechanism
into a co-regulatory effort to fight disinformation online.

Siada El Ramly, Director General of DOT Europe*, together with other signatories of the Code, handed over the signed
document to Commission Vice President Věra Jourová and commissioner Thierry Breton, thereby
underpinning the continued commitment of our industry to the Code.

“The tremendous effort of a wealth of stakeholders, including research, civil society, fact checking
organisations and industry has resulted in a robust set of commitments providing a collective
approach to combat disinformation online. The measures industry has committed to, are both
extensive and ambitious, but we have every intention to rise and take that challenge,” said Siada
El Ramly. “We look forward to contribute to newly created Task-force which will provide continuity
and oversight of the Code in practice.”
