DOT Europe position: The INI on Addictive Design – key principles & comments

Last July, MEP Kim van Sparrentak, published an own-initiative report on addictive design of online services and consumer protection in the EU single market. The MEP calls on the Commission to “urgently close existing regulatory gaps with regard to consumer vulnerabilities,” to present legislation against addictive design and to review the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, Consumer Rights Directive and Unfair Contract Terms Directive. While DOT Europe welcomes the work of the European Parliament and the discussions that this work brings forward, we feel the draf report fails to consider important aspects and stakeholders. An effective discussion cannot be held in 2 months.
